  • Treats and Randomness!

Last night I tried to drink out of the kitties' water dish, but I couldn't seem to reach the water...am I doing it right?

Oh well, it probably tastes like cat anyway.

Don't worry, the kitties didn't see me trying to steal their water. Panther and Coal were outside, and Marmalade was too busy sleeping on Mommy's clothes!

I didn't like playing in my little ball at first, but Mommy said it just takes practice, like riding a bike. She was right, because now I love it! It's like my running wheel, except I can actually go someplace! But Mommy only lets me play in it for about ten minutes at a time; she says that hammies can get hot and thirsty in there. "Don't worry," she said, "when you get back in your cage, I'll give you a special treat!"

    *sniff sniff* "Really?"

"Definately! It's yummy, it has lots of seeds just like you like it; and it's organic! What do you think?"

    "Hmm...smells good! What is it?"

"It's called a fig! Specifically, a dried turkish fig from the co-op."

It was de-lish!! In fact, it gave me a BIG burst of hammie-energy, and I was back on my wheel!

Since my last update I've gone 169.2 miles! Add that to the 469.2 miles I had so far, and my current total is 638.4 miles!

  • The heat still hasn't let up, but Mommy's finding ways to keep us all nice and cool. She really splurged and got a special cat-fountain for the kitties, called a "Drinkwell Fountain", at Petsmart! They love it!

Marmalade, of course, was the first to investigate. The ice cubes in there keep it nice and cold!

    Coal's all, "Yum!"

She got the idea from Cute Overload, of course.

Mommy suggested that I go for a swim in there--doesn't she know I HATE water! It would be like a bath and a shower at the same time!

Anyway, I did an experiment yesterday to see how much food I could fit in my cheeks, then carry into my little house! But....I didn't know Mommy was watching!
     She's so sneaky...

Whew! Summer in Oregon, and it is HOT! HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT! I can't believe how hot it is here...it feels like we live right on the surface of the sun! Of course, I am covered in fur...and right now I wish I had scales or something!

I usually sleep in the middle of the day, but it was so hot yesterday that I got out of my little house and slept in my "sand bath" thingy--the ceramic is much cooler.

But today was even worse. I went upstairs, to the top floor. It's not as hot because the swamp cooler isn't too far; it blows nice cool air through the cage bars. But Mommy saw me up there, looking droopy and overheated--and she got really scared!

"I don't want you to get too hot, sweetie!" She said. "Here, maybe this will help..."

She filled up a few Mason jars with ice cold water and put them in my cage. I investigated them...they were nice and cool! But Mommy said I still looked kinda overheated--see how sweaty I was?

So she moved me to this really big cage that Daddy had just found a few days ago.

It's actually like my new playpen, since I figured out how to escape the last one! Then she put the playpen in the bedroom, which is cooler because it's air-conditioned, while the rest of the house is swamp-cooled. She also put some ice in there too--Daddy laughed at that! He was all, "Our new musical production...Hamsters on Ice!"

Daddy thinks that Mommy was being a little overprotective of me, but she said that it's better to be safe than sorry. "After all, Phadeus is part of the family!"

She let me go back to my regular cage once it cooled down a little. Fortunately, tonight it rained buckets, and now the sweltering heat is gone. Which means I'm back to my regularly scheduled wheel-running! Sorry I forgot to update it last time, but since then I've gone 65.3 miles on my wheel! Add that to my previous  403.9 miles, and my current total is 469.2 miles! Mommy said she should start using me to generate electricity...maybe to power a little hammie-air conditioner!

  • Cat Attack!

Mommy got this new "spray" catnip for the kitties, and she sprayed it on their scratching post. Marmalade and Coal went nuts!

They were, like, totally hyper! They attacked the scratching post for a while, then Marmalade said, "Hey, am I seeing things? That looks like a yummy hamster!"

    "Um, yeah...It's me, Phadeus!"

"Mommy, can we eat him? Pllleeeeeeaaaase???"

"No way, Jose!" Mommy said. I just stuck out my tongue at them. They can't get me!
Still, I stuffed my cheek pouches and headed downstairs, to gloat from a safe distance!

That's better. Then Mommy sprayed them with the water bottle and told them to leave me alone.

I guess cats hate water! I'm not too fond of it either, that's why I bathe in sand! Plus, it's just fun! Check it out:

  • Lucy 3.0!

Well, Mommy's feeling much better now, and we're both so happy (or, so hammy) for Lucy's Daddy! As you know, Lucy's site has been such an inspiration to my family and me. I was so sad when Lucy crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Well, I hadn't thought about it before, but Mathijs van der Paauw--Lucy's Daddy, isn't that a cool name--has been running the site for a long time. The Lucy I knew about was actually Lucy 2.0. And he just adopted a Lucy 3.0!

Isn't  she cute! She's only about 5 weeks old. Check it out!
I'm so happy for them both. She gets a new home and a really great Daddy, and he gets a new Lucy hammie-friend!

With my Lucy-inspired tracker of my own, I've ran 133.4 miles since I last updated my count, so with the 270.4 miles that I'd traveled before that, my new total is 403.9 miles!!!! I'm so proud...Mommy's friend joked that she wondered if, in my little hammie-lifetime, I will, like, circle the Earth!

Anyways, now that Mommy's feeling better, she bought me a special "Pet Grass" thing! It was yummy!

We played together for a while. It was so fun...I really missed her!

Yes, that's her leg...I climbed up her leg, onto her shoulder, and into her hair! She giggled so much I almost fell off!
